6 / 10  Review Rating

Netflix and Hulu have some new competition from free streaming services like Crackle and Pluto TV. These newer services have a different business model from the subscription systems that we’ve seen from Netflix, Hulu, and Max. Instead of offering paid memberships, Crackle and its ilk are totally free and ad-supported.

Tubi or not Tubi? That is the question I set out to answer in this Tubi review. I like streaming services, and I love a free price tag. However, I usually find that the content offered by free streaming services falls flat, especially when compared with the wide array of blockbuster and original content available on services like Max and Hulu.

When I saw that Tubi had partnerships with MGM, Paramount, and Lionsgate, they had my attention. I was hopeful that they would finally be the free service I’d been looking for. So how did they do against the big-name paid services? Do they even stand out amongst other free services like Pluto TV and Crackle? I was ready to find out, and I hope you are, too!

Is Tubi TV the Best Free Streaming Service? We were impressed when we tested Tubi, but there’s plenty of competition in the world of free streaming. Check out our list of the best free streaming services to see if Tubi came out on top.

What You Can Watch on Tubi

Tubi Free Content
What Tubi looks like in your browser

Tubi works like pretty much any other on-demand streaming service. You go to the website or download the app, and you are ready to start watching content. In other words, it’s like Netflix with ads. You can create an account (more on that later), but you don’t have to. The only content they have that is not on-demand is a relatively new feature called “News on Tubi” — a set of live streaming news channels that have only rolled out on a few devices at this point.

I came to Tubi looking for great content, and they did not disappoint. They don’t do original content, and most of their content is at least four years old. But those are limitations I’ve come to expect from free services. What I didn’t expect was the sheer number of movies that I’d been meaning to watch — and now had access to for free! Tubi says there are 20,000 titles on their service, and it certainly feels like that many to me.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and its sequel, After Earth, and Batman vs. Robin all immediately got added to my watch list, along with about two dozen other movies. After scrolling a bit, I came across the “Not on Netflix” section, which had some more great options that – unsurprisingly – were not available on Netflix. These included films with Sasha Baron Cohen, Jason Statham, and Nicolas Cage.

Tubi Content Not on Netflix
Tired of finding titles you've already watched on Netflix? Tubi understands.

Do you like reality TV? It’s okay, you can admit it here. I’ll admit to enjoying a cooking or singing show once in a while if you do. I think I found enough reality TV on Tubi to keep me going for quite a while. Two of Gordon Ramsay’s shows are there, as are The Masked Singer, Hoarders, The Bachelor, and many others.

Although reality TV is definitely where Tubi shines, that’s not all that I watched: As a sitcom junkie, I was also happy to see Anger Management and Grounded for Life in Tubi’s library, too.

If you are looking for classics, this is probably not the place to find them – the selection of older TV shows did not seem as extensive as those of other free streaming services.

I’m an unashamed cartoon fan, so I also looked into the Tubi Kids section. They have The Adventures of Batman – the ones from the 1960s! Once my nostalgia moment was over, I took a look through the rest of the section and found How to Train Your Dragon, Free Birds, and a few other favorites. Their anime section was also impressive for a free service, but it can’t compete with Crunchyroll. If you are looking for content for younger kids, Tubi does have preschool and baby sections as well.

How It Felt to Use Tubi

If you’ve used Netflix, you’ll feel right at home with the Tubi interface. It’s simple, clean, and very easy-to-use. In short: I love it.

Tubi Homepage
Tubi on the Fire TV Stick looks really familiar, doesn't it?

The available titles are all displayed in categories either by genre or common options like “Most Popular” or “Recently Added”. Unlike with some services, there is no option to filter the titles or rearrange them by, for example, alphabetical order. There is, however, an option to search. Having tried out other free services that didn’t have this, Tubi reminded me just how important a search bar can be. I was immediately able to find all 12 Nicolas Cage movies that are on the service. I’m not sure if that’s good or bad, but I found them.

Browsing for TV shows turned out to be more difficult. Tubi’s web interface has TV shows mixed in with the movies instead of in their own section. Tubi seems to have far more movies than TV shows, so the shows tend to get lost in the mix. Fortunately, the mobile app has separate TV and movie sections, so I was able to find TV show options more easily there. This was the only significant feature of the mobile app that I couldn’t also find on the web browser app, but it was available on other streaming devices, like the Fire TV Stick.

It turned out this wasn’t the only usability feature that was missing on the in-browser app. When I started using my Fire TV Stick Tubi app, I noticed the additional menu options for categories and channels. The channels option was particularly exciting because it gave me the ability to find all of the Fox content, including titles that I had missed when browsing through Tubi’s library in my browser. I just hope Tubi brings these features to its in-browser app eventually!

I wanted to find other things to complain about with the interface, but I just couldn’t. Try as I might, nothing about it was glitchy or even cumbersome. The most critical thing I can think of to say is that the pause, rewind, and skip forward buttons sometimes appear over the closed captions. When I’m digging that deep for a complaint, I’m not sure I should even bother to complain at all. In my view, Tubi has a great interface that makes for an even greater user experience.

I’ve been pleasantly surprised by low commercial counts in free services before, but Tubi took it to a new level. I would often watch for more than 30 minutes without seeing a single commercial. When they did pop up, it was usually in groups of two to three. Don’t get me wrong, I’d rather that number was zero, but I consider Tubi’s ad load to be absolutely reasonable for a free service.

Tubi Features and Streaming Quality

The video quality on Tubi was decent, but it was nothing to write home about. Most titles are available in 720p HD, but none are in full 1080p HD. There are also several that are only in standard definition. In the browser app, you can adjust the video quality at will between whichever options are available. On other devices, there is no option to adjust, and some of the quality was clearly SD where I had hoped for HD.

Both the audio and closed caption languages seem to be limited to English in almost every case on Tubi, with the exception of a few Spanish-language movies and TV shows. I couldn’t find a single English title with non-English subtitle options. I also found several titles that didn’t have subtitles at all.

Tubi gives you full control over the closed captions wherever they’re available: You can change the background, size, color, font, and transparency at will. I usually don’t find features like these to be useful, but increasing the font size does have its advantages at times.

As with most free services, account creation is not required for Tubi. I went ahead and created one anyway to check out the features. If you are concerned with privacy, though, you could watch Tubi forever without signing up. Signing up for an account offers two main advantages for most users: the ability to mark items to watch later and the ability to pause a show and continue it later on the same or different devices.

Tubi Parental Controls
Yes, Tubi does have parental controls

If you’re a parent, I’d recommend creating an account: You’ll need one if you’re going to use Tubi’s parental control features. I was impressed that these features were included at all. This is another place where Tubi feels like more than just another free streaming service.

Tubi Platform Support

Not all platforms are created equal – only streaming devices have this channel view
Not all platforms are created equal – only streaming devices have this channel view

Tubi is available on pretty much any device you can think of. They have an in-browser app for your computer, mobile apps on iOS and Android, and apps for streaming devices like Roku and Chromecast. They even have apps for Xbox (Xbox One, Series X, and Series S) and PlayStation (Playstation 3 and 4).

The interfaces in Tubi’s apps do vary somewhat from device to device. In my opinion, the additional ways of looking for titles that are available on streaming devices make for a much more pleasant experience.

The only other major difference between the Tubi experiences on different platforms emerges when Tubi rolls out new features, which often appear on a select set of devices early on. That’s happening right now with the new “News on Tubi” live stream feature, for example: It’s only currently available on Android, Roku, and Amazon Fire devices, but it will be available on all Tubi devices eventually.

Tubi App
The Tubi experience on the iOS mobile app. Since I'm watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, I want to call it my “shell” phone.

Tubi Value

In my book, an experience this good with a $0 price tag is a great value. What more can I say? As much as I would like to get some content from the last three to four years, Tubi more than met my expectations for a free service. There is no paid ad-free option, which is something to keep in mind if the ads are a dealbreaker for you. Barring that, I think you’ll agree that this service offers a pretty great value given its non-existent price tag.

Tubi Review: My Verdict

I judge a free service by whether they waste my time and whether they offer more annoyance than value. Tubi isn’t perfect. I would like a few more ways of browsing the titles, and I would love some newer (and preferably full HD) content.

But, overall, I’m really happy with what I found. Tubi won’t become my main streaming service anytime soon, but that’s the beauty of the free price tag — I can keep this service around without adding to my expenses. Given my experience with Tubi, this was a no-brainer: Tubi’s app has earned a permanent spot on my streaming devices.

I just watched my first (and only) movie on Tubi TV, “The Big Easy”. For about half the movie they showed 5 1/2 minutes of movie interrupted by 2 1/2 minutes of commercials (yes, I timed it!). I expect to see commercials, but this was an annoying experience I will not repeat. Goodbye Tubi.

    1. John Thom says:

They’re losing me also, based on the huge amount of ads they now run.

      1. Carolyn Morton says:

I am not happy with tubi right now in the beginning they offered great horror movies now I’ve gotten to the point I no longer wish to watch this channel, they keep the same movies tooooo long, instead of posting new ones !!!! I checked yesterday and they had new movies. When I checked today they are no longer there. Very, Very Very disappointed.

      2. Rich B says:

Commerical’s on more times than the movie’s. Not worth even watching.

        1. Roland Staring says:

          so right too!!!!! MANY ADDS!!!!!!!!

        2. Gracie says:

I’m willing to watch batches of commercials if in turn I can watch the films offered, but this is a scam. A well reviewed film with well known, accomplished actors , while offered, will not play. There are at least 10 films on offer right now, that stop before the credits roll. Tubi is a ploy to sell 100’s of products and while showing no worthwhile film. Don’t waste your time.

      4. Luis says:

Started ok, then they kept adding more and more commercials until it became very annoying, so I am moving on

        1. 1LTLos says:

One reviewer states”” I came to TUBI for great content and they did not disappoint…” Another a con is that programming is at least 4 years old..”” No one seems to care about accuracy!! The fellow seeking content is actually “”seeking entertainment”” Many channels run documentary type programs and most are inaccurate — especially those concerning Donald Trump. Every Trump doc I have viewed are so predeterminatively biased toward and about him yet, not one negative word concerning the 500 or so idiots who imposed and dragged this country into its current morass!!
TUBI is not alone is delivering these types of lies through their programming but when blatantly wrong; TUBI should admit to that. You cannot trust
young kids with lousy educations and no understanding of American governance or American Tradition make a documentary that is accurate. But broadcasting lies is inexcusable!!!! There is no forgiveness for airing lies — no excuse!!!

      5. Anonymous says:

Me too , TUBI is a leftest run and is pushing crap in your face through there racist commercials !!
        Pathetic

      6. atilla thehun says:

Tubi is the biggest joke perpetrated on Americans since Social Security. On Comcast, player buffers about 50% of the time. FF and rewind are unpredictable. Navigation, well a couple of design guys must be laughing their reward off that they sold their “work” to the company. If you want to watch their offerings, you really have to want them

      7. Douglas N. says:

It’s interesting that the online reviews of Tubi all mention that the ads only run every 15 minutes or so with only a few ads, while the comment sections clearly show that it’s not the case. I too timed it and I was getting ad breaks every 6 or 7 minutes with 4 or 5 ads per break. You can’t enjoy a show with that many disruptions. Just not a channel I will watch anymore.

    2. Hekmlen says:

I love Tubi tv, but I wish they had a place to hold liked movies, great movie addition and only a few ads. Its pretty good for a free service.

      1. Raeanne says:

        They have a cue service

        1. Noelle says:

          What’s that?

      2. Gerry says:

I uninstalled Tubi tonight…every other second the movie cut off. It took me 4 hours to watch a two hour movie

      3. Elke Costa says:

The ads are SO annoying I want to scream.

        1. JBUG says:

Way too many ads. i loved Tubi when I started watching it last year, but this year, even this week, the commercial ads must have tripled. i wish i could keep watching movies, but i cant any more. Its back to good old fashioned DVDs.

    3. Shreks toes says:

      Omg Tubi is good ungratfulllll

    4. NOMORETUBI says:

1:15 hours, lots of buffering, used up a whopping 2.4 gb data at $10 per 5gb on my phone. Five f#*kn bucks and did not see entire movie. BS Tubi. Theives everywhere these days. Curse your business till you pay back what you stole.

Great movies, but it keeps stalling. It takes 3 hours to watch a 1.5 hour movieAnd it’s soooo annoying!!! I can’t watch another movie again, the stalling is just ruining the joy of it 😑

On my way out too. I find more time getting frustrated with it cuz half the time all it does is load, play a 5th of a second and load for another 10 minutes before it then, then goes back to main screen. Its not all the time but Holy crap come on. Don’t just focus on good shows but how about an app that doesn’t have to load every 10 seconds would be nice. So many issues I’m so disappointed just want to watch a show, so many good shows the way the apps work its a real shame to go through such frustration

    9. Thomas McClure says:

Yes it is annoying compared to the other free apps this one is the worst

    10. Jsamneric says:

Tubi used to be better- fewer commercials. It also had a “continue watching” category that saved your recently viewed movies at the place you left off. No More! It used to be my favorite free TV. It is now getting as bad as Pluto with the ads… and the same few commercials EVERY ad break is beyond the point of annoying!!!

      1. marbrolou says:

I loved Tubi because the commercials were always lower in volume.
You don’t find that on other movie sites….. but…. I also loved the “continue watching” option. It was great if the phone rang, or if I needed to go somewhere..or even needed to go to bed… I really miss that…marbrolou

    11. Holly says:

I love Tubi! It beats all the annoying channels on TV and provides shows I grew up with. I think TUBI is INVALUABLE TO ME BASED ON MY AGE. Instead of a bad review, why do you review at all. Watch cable or whatever else you watch.

    12. ScrewYourScamdemic says:

Ublock Origin. Use it. I’ve not seen a single commercial and have watched over 10 movies.

I am about to give up on Tubi and all other channels that are advertising via spanish, wasting my time with unsolicited noise, I don’t understand.. it is highly annoying and should not be allowed .
      This is America!

    14. Eileen O'Brien says:

My biggest complaint is about the ads. I can live with them, but the placement is lousy — sometimes in the middle of a sentence, the ads come on. When the show comes back, words have been skipped over. I find this very frustrating.

    15. Hayden Cahill says:

I agree, as no one wants ads. Who cares if it’s free?

  2. Reed says:

It’s actually a grest service. It’s FREE and the ads are actually less than broadcast TV. They listened and now there are less ads. Awesome selection and getting better. Highly recommended.

    1. Wanda gilberts says:

I agree. Very good films and tv shows. I grew up in the era of non cable network tv. These ads on tubi are nothing!

    2. Matt says:

I absolutely agree! The old-time sci-fi movies are fantastic. What a selection! I wish they could get Playhouse 90.

  3. Scott Carlson says:

I like their selection of movies, especially horror and other grind house and genre movies. I’d actually dump Netflix for Tubi TV if they offered a commercial free pay option.

    1. Rachael Johnson says:

I have Netflix and Hulu but Tubi TV is great…I can always find something…

    2. Tami Miller says:

overall good experience, I don’t like hearing spanish-speaking commercials when I’m watching movies in English. Please

  4. Floridagirl says:

I personally love Tubi! I don’t mind the commercials at all. For me it’s a no brainer, cut the cord and watch commercials. Or keep paying 1,600.00 a year to a satellite company. My home has adjusted well to living without satellite television. And honestly we have so many more choices on what to watch. I’ve always said that I miss the 70’s and 80’s when things went at a slower pace and life was simpler. So what if we can’t fast forward through some commercials. Take a deep breath and embrace the commercials. Don’t be in such a hurry to rush through everything in life, stress less!

    1. Jan says:

I just downloaded tubi , for the most part I’m very happy , but what’s up with the foreign speaking commercials stop the noncense this is America not Mexico , Way to many commercials !! Tone it down we are still paying for you !!!!

  5. Bett says:

I mind the commercials. I mind ALL commercials. And so should you. Read The “Hidden Persuaders” by Vance Packard, about the ad industry, for why. Written in 1957, it remains relevant to this day. If you suffer ads gladly then you’ve been bought and sold. This is why I cancelled my Hulu subscription. And now we’re seeing ads in movies – movies we’ve PAID to see. Yet the sheeple say nothing. I will not be disabling my ad blocker for this disaster of a “service.”

    1. Eric says:

I did read “Hidden Persuaders” in the 70’s and again a couple of years ago. I am allergic to adverts. Tubi plays some of the dumbest ads: like the one that convinces you that those that like to shop at aldi are illiterates that have substandard IQ levels. Or the no-stop pain killer addiction advert, that taunts you into desiring painkillers. Tubi will go down the tubes if it can’t figure a way to do better commercials or pay-to-stop-ads program.

  6. Jay says:

22 commercial breaks in one movie is way too many. Even more annoying is that it was the same commercial every time.

    1. Lisa says:

      Thxs for informing me!

      1. Erica says:

I think tubi is great I love it .! Yes some commercials but a lot less than real tv. It’s free that’s great

  7. Lady Highlander says:

Tubi TV sucks. Sorry people, we repeatedly tried to watch one film on Tubi and were repeatedly kicked off for no reason. First for trying to pause the move (duh, everyone can pause these days); second, we got bumped off trying to fast forward (a NO NO in Tubi land); third, we were watching and ENDURING every 5 minutes commercials and dared not touch anything, and as the move faded to black with us happily awaiting a commercial, BANG, back to our Roku home screen, WHAT!!! We did nothing, Tubi, but you scorned us. SO, TUBI, YOU SUCK! And yes I will happily pay Netflix and Amazon not to be annoyed by you!

  8. John says:

Holy S***, the ads are terribly annoying and I had to stop watching…

    1. D.Angell says:

Unbelievable watching TV prime IMDb TV and Tubi and now I have to watch political commercials between the movie breaks you should be ashamed of yourself we have enough negativity to try and get away with it with our Wi-Fi television and not have it there

  9. Vlad says:

I discovered Tubi while using Roku’s search function. The film I was looking for, Jacob’s Ladder (1990), starring a young Tim Robbins, is an under-rated psycho-drama that has never been broadcast on network or cable television. I was delighted to find it on Tubi. While I admittedly would have enjoyed the film more were it not interrupted by commercial breaks, Tubi has distinguished itself from its competitors by even offering this hard-to-find gem.

    1. Libby fizer says:

I have been watching Tubi for about a week now and I love it, the ads don’t bother me I love the movies enough that I don’t mind. It’s so easy to sign up for too. Love it

  10. David L says:

Tubi restarts Roku 2 over and over, it sucks.

  11. Uri says:

Commercials are way too often. Movies are 90% B movies, not even worth watching. Let alone putting up with so many commercials.

  12. Victoria Mathis says:

Yes, the commercials are very annoying and far too frequent. I would prefer to pay a nominal fee to skip the ads. However, Tubi TV offers a wide selection of films and actually includes romance and dramas, something that’s not easy to find on streaming TV. I’m very happy about finding the screen gem, Irma Green, for fans of classic movies, it’s a true winner. Every now and then, a classic film no matter the age makes even a commercial tolerable.

  13. Val says:

I thought I was the only one who got “bumped” repeatedly off Tubi. It’s the only service I’ve ever been shut off. Won’t waste my time again. The choices of view are terrible, ads are too frequent and REPETITIVE… worse than cable TV. I dumped Netflix a year ago because their content didn’t seem to change… same movies over and over.

  14. Shannon says:

Tubi is starting to piss me off. Whenever I go to rewind back to a part in the movie I missed, Tubi then goes on to play 1/5 commercials. It happens every time I try to ffwd or rewind. If this continues, I will get rid of Tubi TV. I get that I am watching it for free, but to play endless commercials and not to mention the same ones, and to sit through 3 mins of commercials every time you ffwd or rewind is asinine!

  15. Annette says:

One of the worst apps out there! First time I tried watching a movie several months ago, it would play the same commercial over several times in a row. Then I would get kicked out of movie if i tried pausing. Contacted developer which stated an update to the app would be coming out in a couple of weeks that would fix this issue. I tuned back in several weeks later to try and watch the same movie. While it stopped playing the same commercials several times in a row during one break, there were still too many commercial breaks. I left it alone for a little over a month. Today, I tried going into the app to watch a different movie and found that I could not get into app either by signing in or registering. Every time I reach the field to enter my birthdate (which I’ve known all my life), it tells me it is an “invalid birthdate!” Wait… What? App cannot find my email address even though Customer Support used my email to contact me after registering my first complaint! Ain’t nobody got time for this crap!!! Buh-bye Tubitv!!!

  16. Robert Boyle says:

I was trying to watch a documentary called “Gay Sex in the 70’s” but the screen kept going red.

  17. Jack says:

It’s free and a larger selection than I thought… and the ads go by quick. And it’s free. Not meant to beat a paid streaming service, and it’s free.

  18. Renee says:

Commercials, commercials, and more commercials IN SPANISH? I live in Miami which is basically South America but forcing the Spanish commercials down my throat every few minutes is a HUGE negative. I can find most of what this lame app has on YouTube with the options to skip the advertisement after 3 seconds. There are plenty of other freebee options out there without this advertising business called Tubi TV.

    1. Jan says:

TOTALLY AGREE THEY ARE LOSING A BIG CROWD WITH THESE ANNOYING COMMERCIALS AND THATS GONNA BE TOO BAD ! NO ONE WANTS TO SEE OR HEAR THEM 😖

  19. Blake says:

For a free service it’s fine. Sure the ads are annoying, especially if you’re use to ad-free streaming but ads are your price for free movies. I like that there are movies and shows that aren’t on other streaming services. With that said, I wouldn’t recommend cancelling your Netflix subscription but rather supplement it with Tubi TV as a serviceable alternative. I want to add that I would pay half the price of Netflix for an ad-free option.

  20. Jamaica says:

I’m actually starting to HATE Tubi TV! It was OK at 1st, but then I got super annoyed! It freezes sooo much. Like WTF I miss half of the movie!!! Plus the commercials every 3 minutes! Ugh never again! I would not recommend this at all.

  21. Susi Linares says:

My movie have been buffering min after min. Is there a way you can stop this!?

  22. jonmc says:

Terrible on Roku, audio goes out of sync, crashes continually.

  23. Dough says:

They don’t have Sofia the First… that’s all my little girl watch… if she can’t watch Sofia I will just keep paying for Netflix…

  24. Cholt says:

Slow loading. After the commercial, the movie restarted at a random location already viewed. It took me nearly 2.5 hours to watch a 1.75 hour movie! I will give it One more try, but so far, hate it.

  25. Peggy Anteau says:

Just got the free app on my Sony smart TV. Tried watching a movie, but after the first three commercials, the movie would not stop. Blank screen. Don’t know what the problem is.

    1. B. Hamrick says:

Same here. About half-way through the movie, it comes back from commercials with a blank screen with audio still playing. The only way I’ve found to be able to finish the movie is to start it from the beginning and fast-forward to where the screen went blank. I try to avoid using Tubi unless there is something I really want to watch and can’t find it anywhere else.

  26. B Forrest says:

OK. I expected ads from a free service. The movie selection is good and I found movie choices superior to the options I have from Netflix. But, how many times can I watch the same commercial! 2 out of 5 times it is the stupid Toyota SUV commercial. I mute it every time, I don’t know how much money Toyota paid. Dear Toyota and TubiTV, I don’t even remember what you are selling. I found the repetition so annoying that I ignore it time and again.

  27. Max Berry says:

Thanks for all the reviews. 33% commercials are too much for me. The only thing worse is pro sports like NFL commercials that sometimes reach 44%. I stopped watching the Bears after 40 years of fandom so I will now cancel my trial with Tubi. Corporate greed is destroying democracy and destroying common sense on how many ads can you show and still be productive.

We are now so overloaded on advertising that I shut it out and rarely turn any programs on that will invade my home to sell me junk I do not need or want.

    1. Joy B says:

the service is free, so i am not sure what your trial period means…. just because a commercial comes on, does not mean you have to buy something. I tune it out, run in the other room, let the dog out, grab a drink from the fridge, etc. I love the movie selection.

    2. Anonymous says:

I have not been able to watch anything without it stalling or freezing. Wont and don’t recommend

  28. Nicholas Leo says:

Tubi TV needs to charge and stop the ads… Their content is good and the crazy amount of commercials ruin it all…

  29. Yoshi Smith says:

The only problem I encountered with Tubi TV was when there were ads. Occasionally it would restart the movie so I had to manually place it back where the movie left off. Other than that Tubi TV is definitely something I will be using a lot.

    1. Mohsen Kelarestaghi says:

Love tubi tv, very smart app, low volume when commercials are playing and great choice of movies and it’s free .

      1. Tina says:

It is all a fake thing. After you watch it a while, they double the commercials and stop keeping the volume low. They suck you in then screw you over just like regular TV. Nothing new here.

  30. Ano says:

Pretty lame service with the commercials restarting back at “1 of 2” about ten times if you hit the left or right button to skip forward or back a few seconds. Why can’t they just do it the way Hulu did it back before Netflix was even online, back in 2010. Show a two-minute commercial prior to the movie or TV show or give option to have several 20-second interruptions.

  31. Lisa Mansavage says:

Like it, but way, way too many ads in between movie. Very distracting!!!

  32. K Seniuk says:

Tubi TV is an ok service. I think I’d be willing to pay for it (under $10 a month) just to avoid the commercials… and why are they the same commercials over and over… makes me not want to buy the product. Not very smart marketing.

  33. A Baker says:

Never could get the movie to play past the beginning credits. Crashed 3 times. Back to Netflix.

  34. PFC Smuckatelli says:

Yep, too many commercials for me also. And to make matters worse it’s the same commercial over and over and over and over… Bye bye Tubi.

  35. Jennifer says:

Dude its free!!! Whats wrong with you people? Commercials are paying for the free movies, come on dammit.

  36. Sue says:

Seems pretty good so far, apart from the fact that the subtitles on the German film I watched were a) 50% absent and b) absolutely tiny. Good is I’m trying to improve my Germans skills! Other than that, not bad for a free service.

  37. Derek Washuck says:

Tubi is garbage. The head of the company says 5 mins of commercials every 30 mins, try 5 mins of commercials every 10 mins. That’s 12 times every 2 hour movie, and there should be only 4 by what they said! So screw these liers! I would rather pay for Netflix, fiber optic high speed internet, satellite, high definition TV, and PlayStation Vue/Xbox Live!

  38. Mags says:

What the hey! I started watching TubiTV this week and only seen 1 ad while watching my first movie then the next day maybe 2 ads tops. Today 5 before the movie started, 2 minutes later 3, 2 minutes 4! If that happens tomorrow I’m gone!

  39. Rod says:

Watched one movie so far, 2 minutes of ads in the beginning and then a 30-second ad every 30 minutes. It was an older movie, I imagine newer movies will have more ads. No buffering issues with my Fire Stick.

  40. Wendy says:

Really like Tubi! Yes there’s commercials, yes they’re repetitive (sometimes 5 of the same ad in a row). But otherwise it’s free, so I’m happy to deal with the commercials. Gives me a minute to stand up, stretch, run to the kitchen or bathroom. Cable TV charges a monthly fee and there’s ads. I remember when having cable meant no ads. Good selection of movies. Works just fine with my Roku 3. No buffering or anything else (let me not be jinxing myself).

  41. Gabrielle says:

Great shows and movies, commercials are very short and entertaining. In the beginning the commercials would load very loud. Perhaps someone complained to the FCC about the volume of the commercials because as of late they been on a normal if not lower volume than the program you’re watching. It’s way better thank Crackle which loads the same one commercial at extremely loud volume, and doesn’t load correctly on Roku 3.

  42. Brenda says:

Tubi TV and Crackle have way too many ads! They need to take a lesson from the free Roku Channel which has ads that you hardly notice. One ad at a time and very very short!

  43. Old Or says:

I’m not clear on when you get to watch C free and when you have to watch with commercials. Which, by the way, ARE TOTALLY ANNOYING WHEN THEY SHOW THE SAME ONE OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER… What are they thinking? Maybe one day we will have to CHOOSE the commercials we have to watch to keep watching our shows.

  44. Michelle says:

The number of commercials must depend on what you are watching. I’ve watched a couple of older Australian TV shows on Tubi (City Homicide & Packed to the Rafters) and they had very few ads, sometimes only a couple at the beginning of the episode and none during. Tubi only had the first 3 seasons of Packed to the Rafters so now I’m watching the rest on a free trial of Hulu (supposedly with limited commercials) and the number of ads is completely ridiculous for a paid service. There are several mostly older British/Australian shows on Hulu I’d like to watch but with the amount of commercials so far, I’d rather stick with Tubi or buy DVDs.

    1. des says:

      I agree with you

  45. Jim says:

Finally a great reason to CANCEL Netflix! I could care less about commercials, if I don’t have to pay that’s fine by me. I was blown away by the extensive content. My biggest complaint about Netflix is they divide half their content up into discs and streaming, so you have to pay twice to get the entire library. Rip off. And we all know how often they add new content to the streaming part. like… NEVER! I mean I could literally sign back on to Netflix (not that I will again) in 5 years and it will have the same movies streaming as it does now. Bye Bye Netsux!

  46. Darrell says:

Hmmm. Seems my Tubi experience is a little different than the bulk of the reviewers. I’ve now watched a couple short films, and three regular length movies (1.5 hours +/- a bit). I’ve seen a total of one 15 second commercial for coke (“Nailed it!”) about twice per hour of watching. That’s it. Perhaps living in Canada gives me some advantage if the ads are doled out regionally…

Interface on my iPhone was OK. Not so great on the website. There’s no real sense of a home space – you are dumped into your “queue” or your “continue watching” space, which includes every movie you’ve watched up until the closing credits! There are also so many movies in my continue watching page because just clicking on a movie to see what its about seems to start it playing. Then you have to manually remove the movie from your history to get rid of it. They definitely need to work on their online interface. You expect this limited interface control on a mobile device, but not on the website.

I live in the country, with a slower streaming service. Don’t know how Netflix achieves it, but its handling of streaming limitations is superior to Tubi (which is to be expected). I had movies stall quite often on the website location. Or the sound would continue but the picture would freeze. I also tried watching a movie across several platforms. It would sync to the correct place in the movie only about half the time. Oh, another pet peeve: on the mobile service the captions default to “on” for some reason – and will turn themselves on after each commercial, or after each time you pause or stop watching and then go back to the show for any reason. That got kind of annoying.

All in all I thought the service is adequate for the price, but could certainly benefit from improvements. Not a Netflix replacer, but as a free service it certainly complements the paid streaming subscription services.

  47. christopher kowalski says:

Most of Tubi’s movies are just plain bad…The only feature l enjoyed was “SHACKLETONS CAPTAIN” ,a documentary based movie that was really good and well done…The good thing is that Tubi is free but most of the movies are the ones nobody else will feature. They are sub rate with unknown cast members…l’ve started to watch many movies only to delete after only 10 minutes of viewing because they are just so lame…With that said l don’t find Netflix much better… I’m a movie buff but get fatigued scrolling through movie after movie trying to find quality entertainment…Sometimes l have to wonder how these movies ever get financing in the first place…

  48. Desert Guy says:

How do I stop auto play where another movie starts automatically after I’m finished watching a movie. I am getting tired of seeing the same movie over and over again after I’m finished watching a movie I’ve chosen.

  49. Joy B says:

I finally cut the cable cord earlier this year. We have a smart tv, and subscriptions with Hulu+, Amazon and Netflix, but i LOVE TUBI. There are so many movies that I like, many classic hollywood, golden age era movies. Some lesser known but i have enjoyed. I have not watched any shows, so only have the movie experience. I don’t find the commercials troublesome at all. .. Hey this is free stuff, and to me, a lot of choices on movies that i like. I always have a huge que of things to watch next.

  50. Jus post says:

Choices of movies area ok. Some top box office, mostly B movies I’m never going to be interested in. Commercials are unpredictable with occasionally only one, most times two or three and even I’ve experienced several minutes of breaks. Constantly fighting jumps of up to two minutes of lost movie time where I have to stop and set the movie back. Almost doesn’t seem worth the hassles free brings when you’re constantly fighting with jumps in play and the long commercials.

  51. Valerie says:

The movies are wonderful but the commercials freeze and if you go back they start again, over and over again until you give up and leave without watching to the he conclusion of the movie. Not worth the frustration when there are so many free sites out there!!!!!!!

  52. des says:

Tubi Tv is great. I actually enjoy it. I could finish one of my favorite series called “wolf blood” than to Tubi Tv. I LOVE IT

  53. Dorothy McCaleb says:

I absolutely love TUBI!!! I love watching cooking programs that are not competitions and TUBI has them! Thank you!!!

  54. Steve says:

I watch Tubi on my tablet, and I really like it. Sometimes there’s a problem loading a movie with the app. If that happens, I go to the website. I guess I have a really good ad blocker. I’ve never seen an ad. acommercial.

  55. Dawn Sutherland says:

I won’t watch a channel or app that shows me ads in any language other than English. When I went to Germany I spoke German, spoke French in France, now I’m in America so I speak ENGLISH!

  56. m rugs says:

Tubi tv signed me up, took my information, changed my browser and who knows what else, and then I couldn’t even play the movie that was advertised as “free”. Tubi tv = terrible.

  57. Matt says:

Tubi tv puts extra junk on your device. It changed my browser, and then the movie I wanted to watch “”for free”, was not available at all.

  58. Lloyd says:

I am having a buffer problem. The videos keep starting and stopping. I don’t have this problem with Netflix or Crackle. I am using wifi, but I don’t think that is the problem. Tubi does not seem to offer any kind of customer service. I guess I’ll just stay with Netflix.

  59. jayefromjersey says:

I found this site by watching something on my regular tv station on demand and thought I would check it out. I am so glad that I did. The choices are phenomenal! I absolutely love the movies! As an African American I have foundit difficult to find black movies. The movies are so good! And as far as commericals all networks have them, I did not find any more on this station than the norm. Actually seems to be fewer and they do not last long at all. It is a relaxing change to have tubi now.

  60. M says:

Tubi freezes up on me most of the time….Not impressed….

The commercials volume is so loud it ridiculous!! I dont use this app anymore just for that reason

  63. Pat hunt says:

There are many technical difficulties viewing movies, hopefully, this review is read and needed changes are addressed. The movies are continually playing back scenes , additionally, skipping segments of the viewed movie. This is more than frustrating. Unfortunately, we cannot contact Tubi for direct comments and for troubleshooting.

  64. Anonymous@yahoo.com says:

Most bootleg movies ever, horrible sound and quality, too many ads and don’t rewind or or fast forward or you’ll really have to deal with them. Not worth it. Just pay the few bucks with Hulu or something!

  65. Natalie Lemmer says:

Tubi is AWESOME 10/10! Great selection, short commercials (I’ve even enjoyed some of those), and overall a great experience! I was happy I got to watch Gordon Ramsey’s show “24 hours..” for free! 🙂

  66. Amf says:

This is the worst!! Movies won’t play on tubi. Everything else works Hulu amazon Netflix Pluto..,,

  68. Victor Komadina says:

I like to see two classic movies on TUBI That nobody else has. Infact I haven’t seen them on Television for a couple Decades. The Movies are ” The Omen and The Omen II. Other films I can think of are the Hitchcock Movie.

    1. Stephen Lovely says:

Great movies! The Omen is on Starz right now, which is why you can’t find it anywhere else. It will probably pop up on another service once Starz’s contract for the film runs out, but I don’t know when that will be or which service might cut a deal for it next. If you want to watch it soon, you could check out Starz’s free trial (risk-free for one week). You could also always pay a one-time fee to rent or buy The Omen — it’ll be around $5 or so to rent it on Amazon, iTunes, Vudu, or whichever other rental marketplace you like. (The Omen II is on Starz, too. The 2012 Hitchcock biopic isn’t on any subscription services as far as I know, but you can rent it or buy it on Amazon, iTunes, etc.)

  70. Emma Lee says:

All of a sudden after 30min or so of watching my movie. It starts to buffer and then every few minutes it just is forever buffering. Even updated and restarted the roku. Uninstall like my free HBO Max app

  71. Joshua says:

I think Tubi buffers to much. I can have 3 bars and it will sit and buffer forever. Also the ads are to long. You should have a Tubi premier. I would gladly pay for better service and no ads.

  72. Joe C says:

It’s good for backup content if you don’t have strong pay services, but recently they greatly upped their ad interruptions. That’s often a sign that the service is failing.

I find myself watching much less now. When you’re hit with two-and-a-half minutes of ads every few minutes – often the bargain-basement ads shot with cell phones by people who can’t seem to sit still – you’re not going to make it through your movie.

  73. DM says:

The lag is killin me. I love the variety and understand commercials but the lag! I have every service but this is rough.

  74. NOMORETUBI says:

  76. Happymadison@aol.com says:

You’ll have to be a true zombie, absolutely useless to society or anything else to sit around and watch this streaming service which does nothing more than support an ad Warehouse! Nothing but ads 50, 60, 70, 80 or more in a one-hour movie! I threw my Roku stick away because of that and I’m certainly not going to watch this crap.

  77. statix says:

with all the buffering that keeps happening, i cant stay interested in the movies. drives me nuts. then ads come on and no buffering. WTF?

  79. Nancy says:

    For POTENTIAL new subscribers:
Does anyone else worry about hacking when you enter the activation code at tubi.tv/activate from their app on ROKU, and after 3 days of trying to reach a rep at their 877#, supposedly in Redmond WA, you finally reach people with very thick, foreign accents and a bad telephone connection who INSIST on taking over your device remotely (a highly secure desktop PC in my case) to register a new account? Terrifies me especially when I’ve read from other reviewers they also take over and even change your brower which would be a disaster for me. Any experienced tech users’ advice would be appreciated…until then, I’m removing the tubi.tv app from my ROKU listings.
    Thanks.

    1. Stephen Lovely says:

Definitely do NOT let anyone take over your PC remotely! No reputable company should be asking that. I suspect that whoever you reached wasn’t really working for Tubi.

    2. B. Hamrick says:

I did everything online. No one contacted me. They should never ask to take over your computer remotely, and you should never allow it. There is no reason for them to do such a thing. I believe they could change your settings to allow them to take it over when ever they like. You may want to have someone take a look at it for you so that your passwords and banking information can be protected.

  80. Just one Social security number says:

Obvious and typical review from an employer from tubi, come on guys, nobody wants ads every 10min, everyone who knows his way on internet, has adblockers , if not , you literally after one week ready to be checked in at the mental asylum. ( we cant exist without ads, it pays the bills) I DONT CARE! Lots of other ways to earn money without pushing garbage and stuff you already have or not need. buy buy buy buy if not,BUY BUY BUY. Life is short, without adblocks you spend thousands and thousands of hours from your life ,watching fake bad overacting people that promise you things they can not give, by the time you have doubts and the product turns out not what you’ve been promised, it’s there turn to say , WE DONT CARE ,JUST BUY AND GO!!! Thank you come again.

Tubi TV is a good free source for watching movies and some British shows which I love. Yes, there are commercials but compared to regular broadcast TV they do not run for 4 or 5 minutes and they are are lower in volume than regular TV. I not complaints for this free TV service.

  87. Zeus says:

  88. Val says:

I have been watching tubi or a year. They do have a lot of commercials. It is free so I don’t mind to much. Recently I can’t access Tubi on my Roku tv even though I am registered. It now says I have to provide my date of birth before I an view anything. I never had to do this before. Has this happened to anyone else? 06/04/21

  89. Jcren says:

Way too many ads. You watch 5 minutes of a movie and you “pay” for it with 5-6 ads. By the way, I do have Netflix and prefer the small monthly fee for no ads than the constant interruption of a movie WITH ads. Removed Tubi from my app list.

  90. Mak says:

Wow I’m surprised it got a 3 I’d say a1 or really 1/2 1 episode of midsummer murder has 5 commercials at the beginning (approx 4 minutes long) then every 13 minutes 5 more commercials and yes I timed it, that’s worse than cable. No binge watching on Tubi unless you can stand that many commercials.

  91. rand says:

I love Tubi, todays tv and movies dont interest me, extra commercials are no big deal to see some actual good acting

  92. Randy says:

  104. Fred says:

Highly recommend Tubi TV free streaming. Minimal commercials; about half the commercials than over the air TV. No problem with the streaming service, it is smooth, and is easy to go forward or backward. The interface is easy to navigate. Easy to search movies, TV shows, and News and whatever else is offered. Try it, you’ll like it.

Sorry to all the lefties and commies who had their brains laundered by teachers and professors…. you guys stick with cbs abc nbc cnn ….they are all the same so you can take your pick.

  107. Jay Decamp says:

  109. Tina says:

I thought is it my imagination that the commercials have more than doubled AND they are louder?

    NOPE! not imagined.

Started running the same movie, same account, same time – but one on my old computer (that I always watch on) and one on my new computer that I’ve never watched Tubi on.

Results: Older machine – commercials every 15-16 minutes – at least 5 commercials and not quiet

New machine: roughly same timing, skipped one set though and only played at most 2 commericals at a time.

Every break – an extra minute on the old machine for 7 additional minutes of commercials.

The thing is – I hate liars and manipulators – but dang they do have a good old cheesy movie selection – and for example – can’t even stand Youtube at all – sick amounts of commerials.

Solution – stop watching it all. Will try again.

(oh, and screw you amazon and you PR commerical crap – still not shopping at small biz/econ killing crappy evil amazon – I hate you more for all the money you waste on commericals – if you didn’t pay so much – imagine what you could pay workers then idiots – anyone who shops at amazon needs an ethics course)

  110. Juju says:

I was waiting for a particular part to come on in a movie I was watching and I noticed that it was cut out. I’m not interested in watching a movie with missing content. A waste..SMH..

  111. Mike says:

We were forced to find other options when our cable box suddenly went out. I had gotten the Fire Stick from Amazon and kept meaning to look into using it but just never got around to it. We started to access its offerings and we were pleasantly surprised at the many apps that are available and there are LOTS! There are plenty of free ones and they all offer selections of a plethora of categories and titles.
Then we found Tubi and we wished that we had found it sooner. The titles offered run from B grade to epic. After a week or so of watching just Tubi we feel that most of the movies are pretty good to great. For us the reason Tubi stands out is that after watching a particular movie is the ‘Continue Watching’ feature. This awesome feature suggests other movies with the same or similar subject matter. And again, the movies here are predominantly great movies! It also has our favorite local news station, Fox News.
Tubi is the first app in our favorite’s bar, and with good reason. It’s where we start our day and it is where our day ends as well. We read other reviews and some mention picture quality and our opinion is that the picture quality is very high with no loss of definition.
And to top it all off ITS FREE!!!
    ~ Enjoy & Be Well ~
NOTE: Several reviews mention too many commercials. We do not experience excessive commercials – quite the opposite. We talked to a few fellow watchers and I think that the issue is with Signing In. Our son watches Tubi on his cell and occasionally on his tablet, both of which he elected to Sign In. That’s when the amount of commercials increased. We haven’t tested this theory as we only watch Tubi with the Fire Stick on our TV.
Also, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it 😉

  112. Lorna Summey says:

LDS says: 10/02/2022: I thought my TV went out. I have had problems with TUBI for the last week. The app was working fine until this week, so I uninstalled the app. Problem solved. 113. BrandieJ says:

I agree that there are way too many and too frequent commercials.. I’m trying to watch 50 shades of Grey and it plays for like 6 minutes or so then just when it gets to a good part it goes to commercial or should I say commercials 6, 30 second, commercials to be exact.. it’s very frustrating and annoying.. there should be an option where you can watch like 10 min of commercials then watch your entire movie without interruption.. It would such watching 10 min strait of commercials but no worse than going to the movie theater and waiting for the movie to start…

My beef about tubi is that when I watch a series and I want to know more about it and look online to the specific episode that tubi says it is, it isn’t that episode. For example, Im currently binge watching fantasy island and it says I’m watching season 4 episode 24 but in actuality it’s season 5 episode 3. I dont know which episode it decided to go off the rails but it is.

Dear Tubi, I used to like your movie, but every ad seems to be a gay camercle and I I’m not looking for to see something like that at all. If I could cut you off I would, but I can’t afford it. I would to see it all gone.
