What is Popcornflix? The streaming service works a little differently from the way that streaming giants like Netflix and Amazon Prime do. Popcornflix is a type of service that we call ad-supported video on demand (AVOD). Popcornflix funds its streaming efforts with the revenues it recieves from inserting ads into its streaming content. It relies entirely on that income, which means that it can offer viewers free content – which is just what Popcornflix does.

Popcornflix isn't alone in the AVOD space. It shares the free streaming market with competitors like Sony Crackle and the current AVOD top dog Tubi TV. So how does Popcornflix measure up against your other options? What movies and TV shows can you stream on Popcornflix, and what devices can you stream those movies and TV shows on? Here's what you need to know about Popcornflix.

What shows and movies are on Popcornflix?

When it comes to content, Popcornflix follows the strategy that most other AVOD services do. It makes relatively few exclusive streaming rights deals and doesn't create lots of hit original series. Instead, you can expect a reasonably large catalog of movies and TV shows that don't have exclusive deals with other services. There's a lot of overlap between different AVOD libraries, as well as between AVOD libraries and the libraries at some SVOD services – particularly Hulu and Amazon Prime Video. So, for the most part, Popcornflix isn't the only place that you can watch these movies and TV shows. But, of course, it's one of the few places you can watch these movies and TV shows for free!

Here are a few of the highlights from Popcornflix's streaming library.

Movies

  • Kentucky Fried Movie
  • Patriot Games
  • Zodiac

TV Shows

  • Home Movies
  • The Man Show
  • The Weird Al Show
  • The Legend of Zelda

Popcornflix has a pretty large catalog of movies, but it falls off fast. Dig past the few headliners and you'll find yourself in a world of knock-off titles, forgotten flops, and  movies so old that they might be in the public domain. Tubi TV and Crackle have libraries that most users will find superior to Popcornflix's. Still, there are some gems in the Popcornflix streaming library, and more than a few strange and fascinating relics tucked into the trash. Popcornflix has TV shows and movies you might want to watch, and since it's a free service, there's no reason not to add the app – provided, of course, that you can get it on your streaming device of choice. That brings us to our next section!

What devices can I use to watch Popcornflix?

Part of the joy of being a cord cutter is the convenience. Streaming services allow us to watch our favorite movies and TV shows on all sorts of different devices, from wherever we may happen to be. So what devices can you use to watch Popcornflix?

The list is fairly long. Here are the devices that Popcornflix offers apps for.

Streaming platforms and devices

  • Apple TV
  • Fire TV
  • Roku

Video game consoles

  • Xbox One

Mobile devices

  • Android
  • iOS

How much does Popcornflix cost?

The best thing about Popcornflix is the price: it's free!

Popcornflix is an ad-supported video on demand (AVOD) streaming service. That means that Popcornflix is totally free to users.

Of course, this also means that the content you watch on Popcornflix will be interspersed with ads. The ad load isn't too rough, but the ads will interrupt your programming. That's the price you'll pay for free streaming, just as it is with competitor services like Tubi TV and Sony Crackle.

Although there are no paid accounts on Popcornflix, you can still make an account. Popcornflix allows you to stream content with or without logging in, but logging in as a Popcornflix user will net you a few perks. Among other things, it will enable you to sync your streaming progress across devices and maintain a watchlist of TV shows and movies that you'd like to have close at hand.

Getting a Popcornflix free trial

Does Popcornflix have a free trial? Nope – there's no need! Popcornflix is free from the get-go.

Popcornflix contracts

Since Popcornflix doesn't charge its users anything, there's no reason for it to have contracts, either. There's no commitment whatsoever when you stream with Popcornflix, because you'll never be billed. You don't even have to create a (free) account if you don't want to.

If you do decide to create a free Popcornflix account, you don't necessarily have to hold onto it forever. You can choose to delete your account at any time. This won't save you any money, since it's free, but you can do it! We'll show you how in the next section of our Popcornflix guide.

How to cancel Popcornflix

In a sense, there's nothing really to “cancel” about Popcornflix. Since the service is free, you'll never be charged to stream content. If you don't create an account, there's nothing to cancel or delete whatsoever!

But you can create an account with Popcornflix, as we've mentioned a few times already. And some folks may decide that they want to delete that account. Can you?

You can! Just log into your account on Popcornflix's website. On the Profile page, click Delete Account. Enter your password to confirm your decision, and you'll say goodbye to your Popcornflix account.
